Does Your Cat Actually Like You? Here’s How To Tell

October 10, 2023 by Amy Elliot-Meisel

how do you know if a cat likes you

As pet owners, we all wish that our cats could talk to us. With dogs, you can usually tell how they are feeling. With cats, however, they are a little more mysterious. How do you know if a cat actually likes you? Does your furry “friend” secretly despise you?

Here’s how to tell how your cat is feeling.

5 Signs Your Cat Likes You

1. They Sleep Near You

One of the most endearing signs is when a cat chooses to sleep beside you. Cats are most vulnerable when they sleep, so this gesture indicates a deep sense of trust and comfort in your presence.

2. They Show You Their Belly

In the wild, a cat’s belly is its most vulnerable spot. If your feline buddy rolls over and exposes their belly to you, it’s a clear sign of trust. It means they feel safe and secure around you.

3. They Follow You Around The House

If you find your cat trailing behind you, from room to room, it’s not just out of curiosity. It’s their way of saying they enjoy your company and want to be wherever you are.

They may also greet you at the door when you come home!

4. They Blink Slowly

Dubbed the “cat’s kiss,” a slow blink from a cat is a genuine sign of affection. When your cat looks at you and blinks slowly, it’s their way of saying they’re comfortable and content with you.

Try blinking slowly at your cat when they do it to you!

5. They Headbutt You

A gentle nudge or a headbutt is a cat’s way of marking their territory. When they do this to you, it means they consider you “theirs.” It’s an affectionate gesture of bonding and marking you as someone special in their life.
